Simple Shepherd's Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 1 medium, chopped Onion
  • 1 cup, diced Carrots
  • 1 cup, frozen Peas
  • 1 cup Beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 lbs, peeled and quartered Potatoes
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 4 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper

Instructions

  1. 1Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. 2In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. 3Add the chopped onion and diced carrots to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. 4Stir in the frozen peas, beef broth, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly.
  5. 5Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. 6Meanwhile, boil the potatoes in a large pot of salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  7. 7Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Mash with milk and butter until smooth and creamy.
  8. 8Season the mashed potatoes with salt and pepper to taste.
  9. 9Pour the meat and vegetable mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  10. 10Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the top of the meat mixture.
  11. 11Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the mashed potatoes are golden brown.
